Gerflor is committed to sustainable development

Because preserving the environment is one of our concerns, we have made strong commitments through our sustainable development policy entitled "we care/we act"

Sustainability

What is our challenge?
To reduce our carbon impact at all stages of the product life cycle.
What are the results?
Products that meet the highest environmental standards and are manufactured as close as possible to our markets.

-20% kg comparable to CO2/m2 by 2025

First commitment for 2025, we want to drastically reduce our carbon footprint: 20% reduction in kg of CO2 per m2 of product (calculated on scopes 1 & 2 defined in the greenhouse gas protocol).

This objective is in line with the reduction of our carbon emissions: between 2016 and 2019 our emissions have already reduced by 16%.

What is our strategy to achieve this? To limit our carbon footprint at all stages of the product’s life cycle, particularly on raw materials, durability and ease of maintenance.

10% bio-sourced content by 2025

Our bio-based product range includes DLW linoleum (98% natural), Saga tiles with cork backing or homogeneous Mipolam Symbioz flooring made from plasticizers derived from cereal residues.

We want to expand this product range to reach 10% of our business by 2025.

30% recycled materials by 2025

On average, our flooring currently contains 25% recycled materials. By 2025 we hope to reach 30%.

The recycled material comes from industrial waste, installation off-cuts or end-of-life products, mainly collected through our Second Life program.

What can we guarantee? That integrating these recycled components in no way reduces the quality and performance of the floor coverings.

35% of loose-lay products by 2025

We believe that non-adhesive installation represents the future of floor coverings. In addition to offering better indoor air quality, it enables easier and faster installation (saving time and money).

On the environmental side, it saves CO2 from the glue and facilitates recycling at the end of life, avoiding glue residues and patching. Loose-lay products now account for 25% of Gerflor's sales. Our ambition is to reach 35% by 2025.

60,000 tonnes of recycled products by 2025

By 2025 we want to recycle 60,000 tonnes of materials per year, compared to 50,000 in 2020.

How do we go about meeting this challenge?

Our two collection channels:

  • Second Life:  Gerflor collection of “clean” installation off-cuts and end-of-life products (link)

  • PVC Next:  reprocessing of non-standard end-of-life products (link)

A recycling plant specializing in flexible flooring

  • Named Floor To Floor, this plant is the result of the co-investment of Gerflor and Paprec, leader in recycling

  • It sorts the collected off-cuts and transforms them into granules which are then reintegrated into the composition of new Gerflor products
